Surfer Indefinitely Suspended by World Surf League Amid Serious Allegations
The World Surf League (WSL) announced over the weekend the indefinite suspension of a Championship Tour surfer following serious allegations. The identity of the surfer has not been disclosed, but reports suggest it may be Al Cleland Jr., a Mexican surfer currently ranked 24th in the world.
The WSL's statement indicated that the allegations relate to conduct during a private gathering in Tahiti in August, which was not affiliated with the organization. The WSL Discipline Committee acted quickly upon learning of the allegations, issuing a provisional suspension from all WSL events.
Reports indicate that the incident involved a teenage Australian female surfer and at least three men. A Tahitian longboarder and photographer, Vaimiti Teiefitu, mentioned the situation on Instagram, expressing concern over the disturbing nature of the events. As the investigation continues, no charges have been filed, and Cleland has not been convicted of any crime. His participation in future events remains uncertain.
