Suruchi Phogat Excited for First Asian Games Appearance

Suruchi Phogat, a 20-year-old shooter, is set to make her debut at the Asian Games, competing in the 10m air pistol event later this month. She began her shooting journey in 2019 at the age of 13 due to a lack of rifles at the Guru Dronacharya Shooting Academy in Bhiwani, encouraged by her father's ambition for her to become a sportsperson.

Phogat has emerged as a strong contender for a medal, thanks to her impressive performance over the past 18 months. She has expressed her excitement about the upcoming competition, noting that she feels no nervousness, only enthusiasm. As the youngest member of the Indian shooting team, she appreciates the support from her coaches and staff, who guide her during travels.

Her journey to the Asian Games has been marked by significant achievements, including winning four consecutive World Cups, the World Cup Final, and setting both a National record and a World Junior Record in the 10m air rifle event, leading to her current ranking of World No. 3.
