Suryakumar Yadav Discusses Sanju Samson's Response After Being Dropped from T20 World Cup XI
Suryakumar Yadav recently reflected on a challenging decision he faced during India's successful 2026 T20 World Cup campaign, particularly regarding Sanju Samson's exclusion from the playing XI. Initially, Samson struggled with his form and was not included in the team's plans, as Ishan Kishan was favored for his performance in the preceding series against New Zealand.
As the tournament progressed and India faced difficulties, including injuries and performance issues, Samson was given another chance. He made a significant impact in the knockout stages, scoring 321 runs at an average of 80.25 and earning the Player of the Tournament title. Yadav recalled that when he informed Samson about his initial exclusion, Samson responded positively, expressing his readiness to support the team and prepare as if he would play.
Despite his successful World Cup performance, Samson's future in the national team remains uncertain. Following the tournament, he had a strong showing in the IPL but was dropped from the playing XI in subsequent tours. He has been included in India's squad for the upcoming Asian Games, but his position in the T20I setup is still unclear.
