Susie Wolff Addresses Maya Weug's Race Seat Challenges
Susie Wolff, managing director of F1 Academy, has expressed her frustration regarding Maya Weug's challenges in obtaining a full-time race seat for the 2026 season. Weug, who finished second in the 2025 championship with three wins and nine podiums, described the upcoming year as the most difficult of her career.
Despite her achievements in the all-female series, Weug has struggled to find a racing opportunity, while the series champion, Doriane Pin, has advanced to LMP2 and tested Formula 1 cars. Wolff shared her disappointment over the limited progression available for talented drivers like Weug, who has also taken on a coaching role for another driver in the series.
Wolff noted that F1 Academy had funded a test for Weug with Ferrari, but it did not result in further opportunities. She emphasized the need for more support and opportunities for young female drivers in motorsport, acknowledging the financial barriers that exist in the sport.
