Swastika Ghosh's Inspiring Comeback in Table Tennis

Swastika Ghosh, a 23-year-old table tennis player from Navi Mumbai, marked a significant comeback by defeating Japan's Miyuu Kihara, the second seed, in the first round of the WTT Star Contender in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on September 3, 2026. Ghosh, ranked 149th, won the match 3-1, despite Kihara being ranked 25th in the world.

Although Ghosh lost in the Round of 16 to Russia's Vlada Voronina, her victory against Kihara was a crucial affirmation of her recovery journey following surgery for an ovarian cyst earlier this year. This medical issue had previously disrupted her career, forcing her to withdraw from key competitions.

Ghosh's recent achievements include being part of the Indian team that won gold at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships and reaching the semifinals of a national ranking tournament.
