Sydney Prepares for Potential Coaching Change Amid Essendon Search

Sydney's coach Dean Cox has indicated that the club is ready for the possibility that assistant Mark McVeigh could be appointed as Essendon's senior coach. This comes as Essendon looks for a leader ahead of the 2026 premiership.

McVeigh is among four candidates in contention for the role, alongside James Hird, Murray Davis, and Jaymie Graham. The situation gained attention during the recent match between Sydney and Essendon, where Sydney won by 36 points.

Cox noted that the club has prepared for unexpected developments and has held discussions regarding McVeigh's potential departure. He emphasized the importance of supporting McVeigh's aspirations while ensuring he remains focused on his current responsibilities. McVeigh, a former Essendon player, has a history of coaching roles, including a stint as caretaker coach for GWS before joining Sydney.
