Sylvia Earle and Titouan Bernicot Advocate for Ocean Conservation
Renowned oceanographer Sylvia Earle and coral conservationist Titouan Bernicot are collaborating to address the challenges facing the ocean. Earle, who has dedicated over seven decades to ocean exploration and advocacy, founded Mission Blue to protect marine areas known as Hope Spots, while Bernicot established Coral Gardeners to restore coral reefs.
The two recently dove in Thailand, where Coral Gardeners is working on restoring bleached reefs. They discussed the importance of local expertise in conservation efforts and the need for community involvement in protecting marine ecosystems.
Both Earle and Bernicot emphasize the role of technology in advancing coral restoration. Their organizations are utilizing innovative methods, including AI and partnerships with engineers, to enhance restoration efforts. They advocate for a holistic approach to conservation, recognizing that healthy reefs depend on the entire ecosystem.
