Tadej Pogačar Awaiting Surgery Following Vuelta Crash
Tadej Pogačar is currently in recovery after a severe crash during the Vuelta a España, which has delayed necessary surgery for his fractured collarbone. His team, UAE Emirates-XRG, indicated that he cannot undergo the operation until at least Tuesday due to a significant concussion he sustained in the incident.
The crash occurred during stage 8 of the Vuelta, where Pogačar fell at high speed, resulting in a fractured collarbone, a C7 vertebra injury, and a concussion. Mauro Gianetti, the team's general manager, noted that the surgery is complex due to the nature of the collarbone fracture and will depend on Pogačar's recovery from the concussion.
Despite the circumstances, Pogačar remains optimistic while hospitalized in Barcelona. His team has not ruled out the possibility of his return to racing as early as the world championships in Canada, scheduled for September 26. However, Gianetti emphasized the need to prioritize Pogačar's recovery before making any decisions about his racing schedule.
