talkSPORT Considers Bid for F1 Radio Rights, Threatening BBC's Longstanding Coverage
talkSPORT is evaluating a potential bid for the UK radio rights to Formula 1, which may end the BBC's extensive coverage of the sport that has been ongoing since 1994.
Liam Fisher, head of talkSPORT, indicated that F1 aligns well with the station's audience, suggesting a strategic move to attract new listeners beyond their traditional football coverage. The station has recently expanded into motorsport, having secured rights to six MotoGP races earlier this year.
The BBC currently holds exclusive UK audio rights for Formula 1 through its Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds platforms until 2027, featuring a team that includes notable figures like Damon Hill and Sam Bird. However, with the BBC reportedly looking to reduce costs, the potential shift in F1 broadcasting rights may not be unexpected.
