Tampa Bay Rays Complete Sweep of Yankees, Advance to ALCS
The Tampa Bay Rays have advanced to the American League Championship Series following a 4-3 victory over the New York Yankees on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium, completing a three-game sweep.
After winning the first two games of the series, the Rays needed one more win to eliminate the Yankees. Victor Mesa Jr. played a crucial role by hitting a two-run home run in the sixth inning, which gave Tampa Bay a 4-2 lead. Earlier in the game, Ryan Vilade also homered, and Jonathan Aranda contributed with an RBI single.
The Yankees attempted to rally, narrowing the gap to one run in the sixth inning. However, a pivotal moment occurred when Anthony Volpe's apparent game-tying home run was ruled an RBI double due to fan interference after a replay review. This decision limited New York to just one run on the play, and they were unable to score again. Bryan Baker secured the win by striking out Trent Grisham in the ninth inning, marking the end of the Yankees' season and extending their championship drought to 17 years. The Rays will now face either the Chicago White Sox or Cleveland Guardians in the next round.
