Tanvi Sharma Wins Taipei Open, First Indian Woman Since 2008

Indian badminton player Tanvi Sharma secured her first BWF World Tour title by winning the women's singles final at the Taipei Open Super 300. The 17-year-old triumphed over Vietnam's Thuy Linh Nguyen with a score of 21-16, 21-16 in a match that lasted 36 minutes.

Sharma, who is coached by Park Tae-sang, began the match strongly, establishing a 10-2 lead in the first game. Despite some unforced errors, she maintained her composure to win the first game. In the second game, after initially falling behind, she rallied to take control and ultimately clinched the match.

This victory makes Sharma the first Indian woman to win the Taipei Open singles title since Saina Nehwal in 2008. Additionally, at 17 years and 222 days old, she became the youngest finalist in the tournament's history. Sharma has rapidly progressed in her career, previously earning medals at the World Junior Championships and contributing to India's first gold at the Asian Team Championships.
