During a news conference, Skubal expressed his sadness about leaving Detroit, acknowledging that he had anticipated not finishing the 2026 season with the team. He had signed a one-year, $32 million contract and was set to enter free agency after this season.

Despite his emotional farewell, Skubal thanked the Tigers for their role in his development since being drafted in 2018. He expressed excitement about joining the Dodgers, who are pursuing a historic third consecutive World Series title.
