Taulupe Faletau Faces New Injury Setback After Cardiff Return
Taulupe Faletau, the Wales number eight, has encountered another injury setback shortly after returning to play for Cardiff. The 35-year-old made his first appearance since March during a Champions Cup match against Northampton on October 18.
Despite a promising return, Faletau experienced finger pain shortly after the game and will require surgery. As a result, he will miss the upcoming United Rugby Championship derby against Ospreys, which concludes the first block of the season. Cardiff head coach Corniel van Zyl expressed hope that Faletau would be fit to return after the November break for the Nations Championship.
Faletau has struggled with injuries since joining Cardiff from Bath in 2022, having played only 31 matches and limited to seven appearances last season. His recent injury has also impacted his selection for the Wales squad, with in-form teammate Taine Basham taking his place. Cardiff will also be without other key players against Ospreys, including Alex Mann, James Botham, and Basham.
