Taylor Farms Issues Recall of Salsa and Guacamole Due to Salmonella Risk

Taylor Farms has initiated a recall of prepared food items, including salsa and guacamole, due to potential salmonella contamination linked to jalapeños. This announcement was made on August 9, following a notification from Coast Citrus Distributors regarding the recall of fresh peppers.

The California-based company stated it would cease sourcing from a specific farmer in Sinaloa, Mexico, identified as a possible source of the outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration are currently investigating the salmonella outbreak, which has affected 345 individuals across 27 states and resulted in 36 hospitalizations.

Restaurants such as Chipotle Mexican Grill and Qdoba have been identified as recipients of the affected jalapeños and have since stopped using them. Taylor Farms reported no known illnesses connected to the recalled products. The company is also under scrutiny due to a previous outbreak of cyclosporiasis linked to its lettuce, prompting a suspension of iceberg lettuce sourcing from central Mexico.
