Taylor Hicks Establishes Women's Club Golf Team at Penn State
Taylor Hicks, a junior majoring in broadcast journalism at Penn State, has initiated the university's first women's club golf team after feeling the competitive scene did not meet her needs. Initially considering transferring, Hicks decided to establish a team to provide opportunities for female golfers.
She began by promoting the team through posters and social media, organizing meetings, and hosting practices. The club started as a recreational group, but members expressed interest in competing against other schools. The team has since been accepted into Penn State's competitive club association and will begin competitions in the fall.
Currently, the team consists of 12 players eager to compete, while also maintaining a recreational aspect for those who wish to play casually. The club has received significant support from the community, raising over $6,000 to cover expenses. Hicks aims to foster an inclusive environment for both new and experienced golfers, with plans to host their own tournament in the future.
