Taylor Smith Emerges as Leading Candidate for A's GM Position
The Oakland Athletics are searching for a new general manager after parting ways with David Forst on August 7. Since then, the team has considered various candidates for the position, with a notable focus on Taylor Smith, the assistant general manager for the Boston Red Sox.
Smith, who interviewed for the A's GM role nearly a month ago, began his career in 2018 as an analyst with the Tampa Bay Rays. He advanced to director of predictive modeling before joining the Red Sox two years ago. Currently, he is one of four assistant general managers in Boston.
While the A's have also interviewed other candidates, including their own assistant GM Billy Owens and former executives like James Click and Mike Rizzo, Smith appears to be the leading choice. Rob Cerfolio of the St. Louis Cardinals was also considered but is likely to remain with his current team.
