Team GB&I Claims Victory Over Team USA in Walker Cup
In a dramatic conclusion to the Walker Cup, Team Great Britain & Ireland triumphed over Team USA with a score of 13½–12½, marking their first victory since 2015. The competition took place at Lahinch Golf Club, where Team GB&I led after Day 1, winning the opening foursomes 2½–1½ and splitting the singles matches 4–4.
On Sunday morning, Team USA, captained by Nathan Smith, responded strongly by sweeping all four foursomes matches 4–0, shifting the overall score to 9½–6½. However, in the afternoon singles, Team GB&I mounted a remarkable comeback, securing 7 points against the USA's 3. Key victories for GB&I included Stuart Grehan defeating world No. 1 Preston Stout and Jack Whaley winning decisively against William Jennings.
Justin Thomas, a former World No. 1, expressed his disappointment for Team USA while praising the performance of the young players from both teams. The next Walker Cup will take place in 2028, following a change in scheduling to avoid conflicts with other major golf events.
