Team USA Faces Zhang Ziyu in FIBA World Cup Victory
Team USA secured a 94-61 victory against China in their opening match of the FIBA Women’s World Cup, where they faced the impressive 7-foot-3 player Zhang Ziyu.
Zhang, at just 19 years old, stood out on the court, towering over her opponents, including the Americans' tallest player, Aliyah Boston, by 10 inches. She scored 13 points, primarily from free throws, and contributed six rebounds and two blocks during the game.
Despite her height advantage, Zhang is still developing her skills. Coach Kara Lawson noted the challenges she posed but praised her team's effort in defending against her. Zhang, who gained attention for her performance at the 2024 U18 Women’s Asia Cup, is eligible for the 2027 WNBA Draft and could become a significant prospect if she continues to improve her game.
