Temba Bavuma Credits Sachin Tendulkar for Technique After Scoring 179
Temba Bavuma, the captain of South Africa, has acknowledged the impact of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar on his batting style after achieving a personal best score of 179 against Australia in the second Test at St George's Park. This performance helped South Africa recover from a precarious position of 110 for 6 to declare at 425 for 9.
Bavuma expressed that he has consciously tried to adapt elements of Tendulkar's technique, particularly focusing on movement and playing the ball close to his body. His innings of 179, which came off 334 balls, surpassed his previous highest score of 172 against the West Indies in 2023. He noted that this innings was particularly gratifying given his recent struggles with form.
In addition to his own performance, Bavuma praised the contributions of teammates Marco Jansen and Simon Harmer, who scored 85 and 82 runs respectively, helping to stabilize the innings. Bavuma emphasized the importance of their roles in turning the game around, and he acknowledged the challenge posed by Australia's strong bowling attack.
