Teva Pharmaceuticals Seeks to Limit Jury Knowledge of Its Israeli Ties
Teva Pharmaceuticals has filed a request with a U.S. judge to restrict insurer Humana from informing jurors of its Israeli origins during an upcoming drug price-fixing trial. The company argues that the ongoing Gaza war could influence jurors' perceptions and compromise its right to a fair trial.
The trial is set to commence on September 15 in Philadelphia, with Teva being one of several pharmaceutical firms involved in the litigation concerning alleged price inflation of generic drugs. Teva contends that its national identity is irrelevant to the allegations against it.
In its filing, Teva highlighted the heightened tensions surrounding the Gaza conflict, noting that public sentiment towards Israel has become increasingly negative. The company also pointed to protests and violence related to the issue in the U.S. Humana, meanwhile, has requested the court to prevent the introduction of potentially inflammatory evidence by the drug companies.
