Texas Law Firm Awarded $150 Million Contract for Migrant Child Representation
The Trump administration plans to award a $150 million contract to Burke Law Group, a Texas law firm, to offer legal representation for unaccompanied migrant children in government custody during immigration proceedings.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced this intent in a Federal Register notice, detailing that the contract will cover legal orientation, consultation, and representation services for eligible children while they are in custody.
This decision follows claims from legal service providers that the administration has withheld $65 million in overdue fees from a previous contract, which they allege is an effort to compel them to disclose confidential information about the children they represent. Burke Law Group, which has 26 employees and does not specialize in immigration law, has not yet commented on the matter.
