Texas Longhorns Face Tough Decisions After Back-to-Back Losses
The Texas Longhorns have faced a challenging situation after becoming the first team since 1961 to lose back-to-back games while ranked No. 1 in the AP poll. Following a loss to Oklahoma, Texas fell again to Florida, despite initially leading the game.
Coach Steve Sarkisian, who has a record of 35-8 over the past three seasons, was expected to elevate the program to a title contender. However, with a current record of 4-2, doubts are emerging about his ability to lead the team to its first national title in 20 years.
Sarkisian's contract, which runs through 2031 and is valued at over $70 million, includes a buyout clause that would cost Texas approximately $50.15 million if they were to part ways with him after the 2026 season. While two losses do not eliminate Texas from playoff contention, the team's performance may prompt serious discussions about Sarkisian's future if they fail to qualify.
