Texas Longhorns Suffer Second Straight Loss Against Florida
The Texas Longhorns, previously ranked No. 1, faced their second consecutive loss on Saturday, falling to Florida with a score of 27-24. The game was particularly challenging for two of Texas' top prospects for the 2027 NFL draft.
Quarterback Arch Manning, who had been a favorite to be the first overall pick, struggled throughout the game. With just over two minutes remaining and Texas trailing by three, Manning was sacked and fumbled, allowing Florida to secure the victory. Additionally, pass rusher Colin Simmons, who leads the NCAA in sacks and is projected as a Top 5 draft pick, was carted off the field with a left leg injury in the fourth quarter.
Manning attempted to make plays but was unable to escape pressure, failing to convert crucial third and fourth down attempts. Florida running back Jadan Baugh scored the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter, finishing with 91 yards on 25 carries. Manning's performance has raised questions about his potential as an NFL star, especially following a disappointing outing against Oklahoma the previous week.
