The Gymkhana Cricket Ground Undergoes Renovation
The Gymkhana cricket ground in Hyderabad has recently undergone significant renovations, preparing it to host matches for the upcoming 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season. The Hyderabad and Tripura teams will be the first to play on the revamped ground.
Cricket has a long history at Gymkhana, dating back over 150 years, with its first First Class match held in 1931. The ground has hosted various prestigious events, including the Women’s World Cup and the Irani Cup. With the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium needing updates, Gymkhana will take on the role of the primary venue for Hyderabad's Ranji matches.
Improvements to the ground included renovations to all nine pitches, which now feature a mix of soil types, and enhancements to the 30-yard circle and drainage system. These changes aim to create a more balanced playing surface and improve player safety. Early feedback from coaches has been positive regarding the new conditions.
