The Miami Sol, a women's professional basketball team, was established in 2000 and quickly gained popularity, reaching the playoffs in their second season. Despite a solid attendance record and a decent performance, the Sol folded in November 2002 due to a restructuring agreement within the WNBA that shifted financial responsibilities to individual franchises. The Miami Heat, the NBA team associated with the Sol, opted not to support the franchise, leading to its dissolution.
