The Role of MotoGP Riders in Bike Development

MotoGP riders play a crucial role in providing feedback to engineers, but their influence on bike development is often debated. Joan Mir, a former world champion, emphasizes that while riders can express their sensations on the bike, they do not dictate engineering solutions.

Mir notes that riders can request improvements, such as better handling or weight distribution, but it is the team's responsibility to translate these requests into technical changes. Team manager Nicolas Goyon supports this view, stating that while riders choose which parts to race, the engineers are the ones who create upgrades and develop the bike.

The development process is particularly significant as MotoGP prepares for new technical regulations in 2027, which will involve entirely new motorcycles. Feedback from riders is essential, especially with the introduction of new tyres. However, Goyon insists that the rider's input, while vital, is part of a collaborative effort with engineers who ultimately drive the development process.
