Thirlwall Inquiry Reveals Details About Lucy Letby, Convicted Child Killer

The Thirlwall Inquiry has released a report detailing the actions of Lucy Letby, a neonatal nurse convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others. Letby, who is currently serving 15 life sentences, was found to have acted inappropriately while working at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016.

The inquiry, led by Lady Justice Thirlwall, focused on how the hospital managed concerns regarding Letby rather than her guilt. It concluded that the deaths and near-deaths of some infants could have been avoided if proper safeguarding measures had been implemented. The report also highlighted Letby's repeated dishonesty with colleagues and her disregard for management instructions.

Letby has consistently maintained her innocence and has faced two rejections for an appeal in 2024. The Criminal Cases Review Commission is currently reviewing evidence presented by a panel of medical experts who argue that the infants' conditions were due to inadequate medical care and natural causes.
