Three NFL Players Placed on Commissioner’s Exempt List

This past weekend, three NFL players were added to the commissioner’s exempt list: Terrion Arnold of the Seattle Seahawks, Jonathon Cooper of the Denver Broncos, and Josh Jacobs of the Green Bay Packers. While on this list, they will not participate in games but will continue to receive their salaries.

All three players are facing criminal charges. Arnold is implicated in a violent robbery and kidnapping case in Florida. Cooper and Jacobs are involved in cases related to allegations of intimate-partner violence. Jacobs was charged with misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property following an incident involving his girlfriend, which included physical altercations. Cooper has faced multiple arrests for domestic violence incidents, including violating a protection order.

The commissioner’s exempt list has been utilized more frequently since 2014, following public outcry over player conduct. Unlike suspensions, there is no set timeline for how long players remain on this list. The recent placements occurred just before NFL teams were required to finalize their rosters.
