Tiger Woods Supports New Match Play Format for Tour Championship
Tiger Woods has expressed his support for the PGA Tour's plan to modify the Tour Championship format to include a 32-man match play competition, which will commence in 2028.
The announcement was made by PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp prior to the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The new format will feature the top 90 golfers competing in a stroke-play event to select the 32 players who will advance to the match play rounds.
The competition will start with a group stage, where 32 golfers will be divided into eight groups of four for head-to-head matches. The top two from each group will progress to a finale where the remaining 16 players will compete in four rounds of match play, culminating in a showdown between the last two undefeated players for the title.
