Tigers Add Tanner Rainey to Roster
The Detroit Tigers have announced the selection of right-hander Tanner Rainey to their active roster. Rainey fills the spot of left-hander Enmanuel De Jesus, who has been placed on the paternity list.
Rainey, who is 33 years old, initially signed a minor league contract with the Tigers last summer. He was added to the roster in September and made two appearances before being non-tendered at the end of the season. He re-signed on a minor league deal and has been performing well with Triple-A Toledo this season, pitching 42 2/3 innings across 39 appearances with a 2.32 earned run average.
His performance includes a high walk rate of 14.5% but an impressive strikeout rate of 33.5%. Rainey has a total of 199 innings in his major league career, primarily with the Nationals, where he recorded a 5.52 ERA. With his experience, Rainey will provide additional support to the Tigers' bullpen while De Jesus is unavailable.
