Tigers Call Up Brett Callahan for MLB Debut, Designate Trei Cruz

The Detroit Tigers have announced the promotion of outfielder Brett Callahan from Triple-A Toledo, marking his major league debut. Callahan is set to join the starting lineup today, with Trei Cruz being designated for assignment as part of the roster move.

At 24 years old, Callahan was drafted by the Tigers in the 13th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. This season, he played at Double-A, achieving a batting line of .268/.374/.504 over 265 plate appearances, demonstrating a solid understanding of the strike zone with a 12.8% walk rate. Although his performance dipped somewhat at Triple-A, he maintained good contact and on-base rates.

Callahan has faced injuries in the past two seasons but has rebounded well in 2026, playing 96 games and performing 18% better than the league average. He is currently ranked as the No. 19 prospect in the Tigers' system by MLB Pipeline and has showcased his speed with 29 stolen bases this year. With several key players injured, Callahan will have the opportunity to prove himself in the major leagues.
