Tigers Designate Tanner Rainey for Assignment

Tanner Rainey, 33, had recently joined the major league roster after signing a minor league deal in the offseason. Despite showing promise in the minors with a 2.32 ERA and a high strikeout rate, his performance in the majors was less effective. In six appearances, he pitched seven innings, allowing three earned runs but struggling with control, walking eight of 31 batters faced.

With the trade deadline passed, Rainey will be placed on waivers. While some teams may be interested in his strikeout potential, his significant control issues could deter interest. Throughout his career, he has maintained a 5.46 ERA, with a notable strikeout rate but also a high walk rate.
