Tigers Re-Sign Carlos Perez to Minor League Contract
The Detroit Tigers have brought back veteran catcher Carlos Perez on a minor league contract. This decision was noted in a transactions update from Baseball America.
Perez, who recently turned 36, played for both the Tigers' and Astros' Triple-A affiliates during the 2026 season. After being signed by Houston as a depth option, he was released in June and later joined the Tigers, where he had a strong start with Triple-A Toledo, hitting .351 with seven home runs in his first 12 games before an ankle injury ended his season.
In 2027, Perez is expected to continue with the Mud Hens. He last appeared in the majors in 2023 with the Athletics, where he had a .592 OPS over 859 plate appearances. The Tigers' catching depth includes Eduardo Valencia and prospects Josue Briceno and Thayron Liranzo, indicating that Perez may need multiple injuries to secure a spot on the major league roster.
