Tigers Send James Outman to Triple-A After Clearing Waivers

James Outman has been outrighted to Triple-A by the Detroit Tigers after clearing waivers. This decision follows his designation for assignment, which was made to accommodate left-handed pitcher Andrew Sears.

Outman, who has two years of MLB service time, had to accept the minor league assignment as he had not been outrighted before. This marks his second DFA process this season; he was previously claimed by the Tigers after being waived by the Minnesota Twins. He will now return to Toledo while awaiting another opportunity in the major leagues.

During his time with Detroit, Outman recorded a batting average of .183 over 100 plate appearances, hitting five home runs and stealing two bases. He played across all three outfield positions but struggled with strikeouts, posting a 41.8% strikeout rate this season. The Tigers have faced challenges in center field, utilizing eight different players at the position, with rookie Max Clark currently filling the role.
