Tigers Set to Promote Andrew Sears for MLB Debut
The Detroit Tigers are anticipated to promote left-handed pitcher Andrew Sears to their roster on Sunday, marking his Major League Baseball debut against the Kansas City Royals.
Sears, 23, recently moved up to Triple-A after delivering 9 2/3 scoreless innings in two appearances with Toledo. Prior to that, he had a 2.57 ERA over nine games at Double-A. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch noted that while the transition to the big leagues is significant, Sears has shown he can compete effectively.
Ranked as the No. 14 prospect in the Tigers' system by MLB Pipeline, Sears has been recognized for his mid-90s fastball and sharp slider. He utilized his sinker predominantly in Triple-A, throwing it over half the time. The Tigers are expected to adjust their roster accordingly, as they currently have a full 40-man roster.
