Tigers Sign Catcher Seby Zavala to Minor League Contract

The Detroit Tigers have signed veteran catcher Seby Zavala to a minor league contract, enhancing their catching depth as reported by Evan Woodbery of MLive.com. Zavala, who is 32 years old, recently played in the Mexican League after being released by the Dodgers.

In his debut with Triple-A Toledo, Zavala recorded one hit, a walk, and a strikeout. The Mud Hens are currently facing a shortage of veteran catchers due to injuries, including Carlos Perez, who was placed on the injured list, and Tomas Nido, who was released after his injury.

Zavala has a history in Major League Baseball, primarily with the White Sox, and last played in the majors with the Mariners in 2024. His performance includes a .154 batting average over 18 games with Seattle. Despite his struggles at the plate, he is recognized for his defensive skills, including a notable number of Defensive Runs Saved.
