Timberwolves Decline Option on Cody Williams, Retain Shannon and Beringer
The Minnesota Timberwolves have decided not to exercise their option on forward Cody Williams for the 2027/28 season, allowing him to enter free agency next summer. In contrast, the team has confirmed options for wing Terrence Shannon Jr. and big man Joan Beringer, who are expected to play significant roles off the bench this season.
Shannon, selected 27th in the 2024 draft, is currently averaging 14.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, while Beringer, the 17th pick in 2025, contributes 6.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Both players have shown promising performances in the early part of the season.
Cody Williams, the 10th overall pick in 2024, has struggled to make an impact, scoring no points in 11 minutes over three games with the Timberwolves. His option for the upcoming season was valued at $7.67 million, a figure deemed too high given his current performance. Consequently, he will become an unrestricted free agent if he completes his contract.
