Tom Aspinall Vacates UFC Heavyweight Title After Injury Setback

Tom Aspinall has officially vacated his UFC heavyweight title after suffering an injury setback during training. The English fighter's announcement on Monday marked the end of his 450-day reign without any title defenses.

Aspinall's misfortunes began during his rise in the heavyweight rankings, where he won five consecutive fights by stoppage. However, his first loss in the UFC came against Curtis Blaydes due to a knee injury just a minute into their match at UFC London.

After recovering from surgery, Aspinall briefly returned to the octagon but faced another challenge when a back issue arose before a proposed interim title fight against Sergei Pavlovich. Although he managed to win that fight in just 69 seconds, he later sought a unification bout with Jon Jones. Aspinall's first fight as the official champion ended in a no-contest due to an eye poke from Ciryl Gane. Following multiple eye surgeries and a recent training injury, Aspinall decided to vacate the title, leaving his future in the sport uncertain.
