Tombazis Addresses Challenges of 2026 F1 Car Regulations

Nikolas Tombazis, the FIA's single-seater Director, has responded to complaints from drivers regarding the new 2026 Formula 1 cars, which many claim require significant changes to their driving styles. Lando Norris, the 2025 world champion, described the 2026 model as the most challenging car he has encountered in his career.

While acknowledging the difficulties drivers face, Tombazis emphasized that F1 cars should not be easy to drive. He noted that the aerodynamic regulations are designed to create challenges for teams, ensuring that only the best drivers can handle them effectively. The 2026 car is lighter and smaller than its predecessor, but Tombazis expressed a desire for further weight reductions in future models.

Tombazis believes that the sport is progressing positively, stating that cars are now able to follow each other more closely than before. He highlighted improvements in aerodynamic solutions compared to previous regulations, which had caused significant issues in car performance.
