Tony D’Angelo Reflects on Challenges During NXT Championship Reign
WWE NXT star Tony D’Angelo has shared insights about his championship reign, suggesting that the inexperience of the roster played a significant role in his title run. D’Angelo captured the NXT Championship at WWE Stand & Deliver, defeating Joe Hendry, Ethan Page, and Ricky Saints in a fatal four-way match, but his reign concluded after 147 days at NXT Heatwave.
In a conversation with Denise Salcedo, D’Angelo expressed that he faced challenges due to a lack of experienced opponents, attributing this to the roster changes within NXT. He noted that many seasoned performers had moved to the main roster, leaving him with less experienced talent to compete against. Despite these challenges, he believes he demonstrated his capability as a champion during a transitional period for the brand.
D’Angelo successfully defended his title against Naraku at The Great American Bash and in a Street Fight, but ultimately lost it to Grayson Waller at NXT Heatwave in another fatal four-way match. He is now set to compete against Waller again for the title at Halloween Havoc 2026 this weekend.
