Total Chess World Championship Tour Pilot to Launch in Budapest
The Total Chess World Championship Tour Pilot is set to occur in Budapest from November 10 to 21, featuring prominent chess figures such as five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen. This event marks the beginning of a new chapter in professional chess.
Approved by FIDE and conceptualized by Norway Chess, the tour aims to introduce a global championship format that will culminate in the crowning of the FIDE World Combined Champion across Fast Classic, Rapid, and Blitz formats. The Budapest Pilot will showcase many elite players ahead of the official launch of the multi-city World Championship Tour in 2027.
The tournament will include 24 elite players competing in a group stage followed by knockout rounds, testing their skills across all three disciplines. The format is designed to reward versatility and excellence, with further details regarding the tournament structure and prize fund to be announced soon.
