Total Solar Eclipse Expected on August 2, 2027

A total solar eclipse is set to take place on August 2, 2027, with a duration of up to six minutes and 23 seconds at its peak, as reported by NASA. This event, where the moon will completely obscure the sun, will be one of the longest total solar eclipses in decades.

Unlike the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, which lasted four minutes and 28 seconds, the upcoming eclipse will be the longest until 2114. It will be visible in parts of Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, while only a partial view will be available in parts of Maine, USA, between 5:14 and 5:19 a.m. ET.

Additionally, another solar eclipse will occur prior to this event on August 12, 2026, which will be visible in Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Russia, and parts of Portugal.
