Toto Wolff Plans Succession at Mercedes F1
Toto Wolff, the prominent figure at Mercedes F1 since 2013, is actively working on a succession plan as he considers stepping back from his role. He has indicated that his responsibilities will likely be divided among two or three current team members, rather than being handed over to a single successor.
Wolff's operational duties encompass technical oversight, commercial negotiations, and driver management, making a straightforward replacement challenging. He recently shared insights on his plans during an appearance on the Cheeky Pint podcast, emphasizing the importance of long-term stability for the team.
In late 2023, Wolff temporarily delegated trackside responsibilities to Communications Director Bradley Lord and former driver development head Jerome d'Ambrosio while recovering from knee surgery. With d'Ambrosio's recent move to Ferrari, competition for leadership roles within the team is intensifying. Wolff, who holds a 33% stake in the team, aims to ensure a smooth transition without interfering in daily operations once he steps back.
