Tottenham's Martin Ho Calls for More Support for WSL Referees
Following Tottenham's 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, manager Martin Ho expressed his frustration regarding a penalty awarded during the match. The penalty, converted by Alessia Russo in the 56th minute, stemmed from a handball incident involving Spurs player Ella Morris.
Ho questioned the decision, citing the rules that suggest an indirect free-kick should be given when a teammate's action leads to a handball. He noted that the referees could not provide a satisfactory explanation during the game, prompting him to seek clarification afterward. He acknowledged the challenges referees face but criticized the declining standards compared to the previous year.
Currently, the Women's Super League lacks video assistant referees and goalline technology, and many officials are not full-time. Ho advocated for more full-time referees and better training to enhance decision-making in the league, highlighting the ongoing controversies surrounding officiating in recent matches.
