Toyota Faces Heartbreak at WEC Austin with Late Mechanical Failure

Toyota experienced a late-race mechanical failure during the World Endurance Championship's Lone Star Le Mans in Austin, which denied the team a potential victory. The incident occurred with just over ten minutes remaining when Nyck de Vries, who had been leading, encountered a hydraulic issue that resulted in the loss of power steering, forcing the #7 Toyota TR010 Hybrid to retire.

The team had shown strong performance throughout the race, climbing from ninth on the grid to lead after a series of impressive maneuvers by de Vries. However, the retirement marked another disappointment for Toyota at the Circuit of the Americas, where they have yet to secure a WEC victory after nine attempts. Team principal Kamui Kobayashi expressed the team's frustration, noting the missed opportunity to score valuable points.

Despite the setback, the #7 crew remains joint leaders in the drivers' championship, while Toyota holds a nine-point lead in the manufacturers' standings. The team is now focused on improving for their next race at Fuji.
