Tragic Drowning Incident at Laguna Beach Claims Life of 24-Year-Old

A 24-year-old man drowned while swimming at Crescent Bay in Laguna Beach, California, on Monday evening. This incident marks the second drowning in the area this summer.

The Laguna Beach Department of Marine Safety reported that a 911 call was received around 7:30 p.m. regarding a male who had gone missing in the water. Witnesses noted that the man had been swimming with a friend and appeared to struggle to stay afloat.

Emergency responders, including the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Laguna Beach Public Safety Staff, Newport Beach Lifeguards, and the U.S. Coast Guard, were dispatched to conduct a search. By 8:15 p.m., the Marine Safety dive team found the swimmer, who was subsequently transported to Mission Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

This incident follows another drowning in June, where a five-year-old girl was swept into the ocean at Treasure Island Beach. Both drownings occurred during heavy surf conditions, exacerbated by Hurricane Genevieve, which created large waves and strong rip currents.
