Trea Turner Shows Defensive Improvement Amid Phillies Adjustments

PHILADELPHIA — Trea Turner has recently improved his defensive performance at shortstop for the Philadelphia Phillies, having not made an error since July 27. Despite a challenging season where he ranked second in MLB with 18 errors, Turner attributes his progress to adjustments in his setup and maintaining a better rhythm.

From June 17 to July 27, Turner struggled significantly, committing 12 errors in 33 games. However, he has since made all the routine plays expected of him. The Phillies have also made infield adjustments, moving Bryson Stott to third base and shifting other players to accommodate Turner at shortstop, a decision made after acquiring Luis Arraez.

Turner expressed a willingness to adapt to different positions if necessary, highlighting the team's selflessness in managing these changes. Meanwhile, the Phillies have been utilizing Garrett Stubbs as a backup catcher while Rafael Marchan recovers from injury. The team is also addressing concerns regarding pitcher Zack Wheeler's placement on the rubber, which has sparked discussions with umpires but is not seen as a significant issue moving forward.
