In New Delhi, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand achieved a significant victory at the BWF World Championships, defeating Japan's seventh-seeded pair, Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi, in straight games. The match took place at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, where the unseeded Indian duo won 21-16, 21-12, bringing them one win away from securing a medal.

The Indian pair, currently ranked 39th in the world, demonstrated strong performance, particularly Treesa, who showcased aggressive play from the backcourt. Despite some frustrations during the match, including a yellow card issued to Treesa, the duo maintained their focus and intensity, receiving support from the home crowd.

This quarterfinal appearance marks a notable comeback for the pair, who had faced challenges due to Treesa's ankle injury that sidelined them for three months. They have previously reached the All England Open semifinals and won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
