Previously, Watford played for the Portland Trail Blazers and Brooklyn Nets, and he was with the Philadelphia 76ers last season. After the Sixers declined his team option, he entered free agency. In the past season, he participated in 53 games, averaging 6.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.

This signing marks the Pelicans' first significant addition during a relatively quiet offseason, bringing their roster to 15 players under standard contracts.
