Trey Kaufman-Renn Signs with Kansas, Pursuing Sixth Year of Eligibility
Trey Kaufman-Renn, a former standout at Purdue, has signed with the University of Kansas while pursuing a sixth year of eligibility. He began practicing with the team last week and will take the place of freshman guard Grant Mordini, who is out for the season due to a knee injury.
Kaufman-Renn, who redshirted his first year, has played four seasons of college basketball. He was granted a preliminary injunction against the NCAA earlier this month, which may impact his eligibility status. Kansas coach Bill Self noted Kaufman-Renn's extensive experience and basketball IQ, suggesting a smooth transition to the team.
The addition of Kaufman-Renn comes as Kansas has been actively recruiting players seeking an additional year of eligibility. If eligible, he could significantly enhance the team's performance, having averaged 14.2 points and 8.3 rebounds in his last season at Purdue. The Jayhawks are set to begin their season against Fordham on November 2.
